Marjan Račnik from Remšnik

Marjan Račnik from Remšnik has walked an interesting learning path from a metal designer - planer - by way of social activity organiser, mountain guide, study circle leader and publicist, to researcher of the special historical and ethnographic features of his local area and - finally - student. His curiosity and creativity are an example for many. As president of the Society of Rural Youth of the Drava Valley, and of the Ožbalt-Kapla Mountaineering Society, he passes on his knowledge to anyone who wants it. He trained for each activity: he attended a school for mountain guides, he trained as a study circle mentor, he developed public appearance and written communications skills. He has helped to found four societies (cultural, sporting and horticultural, and a pensioners' society), and is also active in the border-area municipality cooperation committee. He awakens the need for learning and self-development in others as a mentor in study circles, of which he has already led 11! He prepared the historical and ethnographic material gathered from research in archives or obtained by members of circles for publication in a brochure Remšnik, our town. Convinced that anything is possible, he decided to continue his formal education. While working full-time he is completing secondary economic school, and he intends to continue studying economics at a higher level, especially since he will be able to enrol in a distance-learning programme.
