The Embroidery Group from Slovenska Bistrica
An educational plan for self-employment
The Embroidery Group from Slovenska Bistrica is a group of four ambitious women (Štefka Perko, Elica Skrbenjek, Sabina Trunkl and Bo.ena Lunežnik-Pintarič) who discovered after an initial course at the Folk High School that they could use this knowledge to prepare a self-employment plan. Through the National Employment Organisation, the group began to participate in the Public Works programme, receiving further education and training. They also launched themselves into research work, studying patterns and embroidery in the wider Pohorje area. The quality of their products is testified to by the Expert Committee of the Chamber of Small Business of Slovenia which classified their products as home-made Slovenian handicrafts.
