Vitra from Cerknica
Creating opportunities for rural development
Vitra, the Centre for Balanced Development in Cerknica, is a non-governmental non-profit institute established to revive rural areas in the hilly regions of Notranjska and Dolenjska. Their mission is to encourage, educate and attract locals towards development opportunities. The opportunities are there, but they must be discovered and developed. They prepared numerous workshops, talks, study circles and visits. By 1997 they have already organised nine international voluntary work camps, which brought locals together and carried the reputation of the sights of Notranjska around the world. They also publish a newsletter ‘VITR(in)A' to promote interaction and awareness of development opportunities.
