Traditionally, the LLW leading theme has been related to the respective European year. In the last two years, SIAE in cooperation with the network of LLW coordinators and providers defined additional themes of LLW events. In 2010 these were:

• topics of the European year for combating poverty and social exclusion (highlighted in approx. 540 events)
• topics of the International year of biodiversity (approx. 150 events)
• 15 years of the Slovenian Lifelong Learning Week (approx. 830 events)
• Lifelong learning in the culture of reading (approx. 925 events)
• Lifelong learning and people with special needs (approx. 330 events)
• Education tailored to the needs of economy - the keyword is collaboration! (approx. 230 events)
• Non-governmental organisations - creating, linking and sharing knowledge (approx. 300 events)
• Lifelong learning and family, intergenerational learning (approx. 430 events)
